Opeth

Opeth est un groupe suédois de métal progressif de Stockholm, formé en 1989. Le groupe a connu plusieurs changements de personnel, y compris le remplacement de chacun des membres d'origine. Le chanteur, guitariste et compositeur Mikael Åkerfeldt est resté la principale force motrice d'Opeth depuis le départ du chanteur original David Isberg en 1992. Opeth a constamment incorporé des influences progressives, folk, blues, classiques et jazz dans ses compositions généralement longues, ainsi que de fortes influences du death metal, en particulier dans ses premières œuvres. De nombreuses chansons comportent des passages à la guitare acoustique et de fortes variations dynamiques, ainsi qu'une caractérisation vocale démoniaque. Opeth est également bien connu pour avoir incorporé des Mellotrons dans son travail. Opeth a rarement fait des apparitions en live pour soutenir leurs quatre premiers albums, mais depuis leur première tournée mondiale après la sortie de Blackwater Park en 2001, ils ont mené plusieurs grandes tournées mondiales.

Opeth a sorti 13 albums studio, quatre DVD live, quatre albums live (dont trois en conjonction avec des DVD) et deux coffrets. Le groupe a sorti son premier album Orchid en 1995.

Although their eighth studio album, Ghost Reveries, was quite popular in the U.S., Opeth did not achieve any major U.S. commercial success until the release of their ninth studio album, Watershed, in 2008, which reached 23rd place on the Billboard 200 and topped the Finnish album chart in the first week of its release. In November 2009, Opeth sold more than 1.5 million copies of its albums and DVDs worldwide, including 300,000 collective SoundScans of its albums Blackwater Park, Damnation and Deliverance in the United States.
Opeth is a death metal band formed in 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden, by singer David Isberg [6]. The band's name is derived from the word "Opet", taken from the novel The Sunbird by Wilbur Smith [7]. 7] In this novel, Opet is the name of a fictitious Phoenician city in South Africa, translated as "City of the Moon".

In 1990, Isberg asked Mikael Åkerfeldt, then 16 years old, a former member of the band Eruption, to join Opet as a bassist. When Mikael Åkerfeldt showed up at rehearsals the day after Isberg's invitation, it became clear that Isberg had not told the band members, including the current bassist, that Åkerfeldt would join the band. An argument then led all members, except Isberg and Åkerfeldt, to leave the band to form a new project.
